Enhance your visit to Playa Las Tortugas by reading a book about Mexico.
Nobody has yet written a book about Playa Las Tortugas. But maybe someday! In the meantime, we’re happy to share books about Mexico we’ve read recently, and hope you enjoy them as much as we did.
The Crossing, by Cormac McCarthy
We love Cormac McCarthy. Having this book set in Mexico makes us love it even more. His moody writing gives you a vivid sense for how the young protagonist experiences the people and landscapes of old Mexico.
God’s Middle Finger, by Richard Grant
A raw look at the rough and tumble of Mexico’s Sierra Madre. It won’t make you want to visit the scary remote parts of Mexico, but you’ll keep reading and get a deeper insight into what’s really going on up in those mountains.
On the Plain of Snakes, by Paul Theroux
We enjoy the authentic simplicity of Theroux’s writing style and the broad geographical range. The themes and insights felt a bit repetitive, but an interesting, honest portrait of Mexico.
Bad Karma, by Paul Wilson
A “popcorn book”. A crazy story about a group of guys “winging it” on a surf trip to Mexico. Bizarre stuff happens, though we didn’t find the characters all that interesting or the story deep.
Playa Las Tortugas experiences to complement books about Mexico.
Naturally curious readers will also want to learn about the patterns behind the Playa Las Tortugas weather. Birding is another recommended experience, along with learning about our coconut trees.
